Interior of Equipment

Typically one inch thickness, the filter mounts in the interior of the gas furnace or air handler. It may slide in through a slot in the face of the furnace or air handler, or mount within the main body of the unit be removing the face of the unit.

Return Air Filter Grille

Typically one inch in thickness, the filter mounts within a metal hinged frame grille. This may be installed in either the ceiling or on the wall. In addition, there may be more than one of these per system. For instance, there may be one in a living space and one in a master bedroom. In some cases rather than a one inch filter there could be a five inch media style filter.

Cabinet Style Mounted

Typically a five inch media style filter, it will be mounted in a metal or thick plastic cabinet installed either beneath or beside the gas furnace or air handler. This cabinet will usually have an access door on the front of the cabinet to gain access to slide the filter out.
